Work, work, work

I feel like all I've done lately is work. I had a meeting at work on Tues. Wednesday I worked 8.5 hours, Thurs. I worked 12, Fri. I worked 15, and then I went in Sat. at 7 am and got off Sun. at 7 am, yes that is 24 hours straight! It is ridiculous! I love helping the girls, but after a weekend full of constant managements and getting myself all bruised up, I was more than ready for some time off! They tried to call me in last night, but I refused to answer the phone! Tomorrow we have more training and I start my "regular" shift back on Wed. Whew! No wonder I'm so tired!

Last night Adam tried to do a kick flip on the skateboard and fell. We spent 3 hours this morning at Urgent Care only to find out it was merely bruised internally! He got a wrist brace and ibuprofen! Oh well, we got to spend the day together afterwards, just the two of us! It was really nice to get the time out together, I feel like I've missed out on a ton working so much!

I'm debating whether to hang in with this job or not. Until I decide though, my life is really hectic so I apologize if I'm not around as much as I'd like. Thank you to all who have left me comments.

Early Lessons

This post is about my son and his girlfriends. Although I wouldn't exactly call them girlfriends, he does and it's easier for time and explanation purposes, but I use the term very loosely since he is only 12!

From kindergarten until the middle of 3rd grade (when we moved), Adam had a little girlfriend named Hannah. They talked all the time, it was so cute. Even for a couple of months after we moved, they still kept in contact. Obviously, he moved on after awhile.

We moved back a couple of months ago and he's now in 6th grade. He's had several other little girlfriends since then, including Sarah (the one we took to the movies and bought a V-day present for). Well, he recently found Hannah again and quickly became friends.

A couple of days ago, Adam asked to go spend the day with Hannah and her mom. I asked him about Sarah and he said it didn't matter that he and Hannah were only friends and yes, he would tell Sarah, she would understand.

I told him he didn't understand girls very well, that we don't work that way! He thought I was crazy and decided to tell Sarah about his day with Hannah. Needless to say, Sarah broke up with him!

Did he get upset? No, he called Hannah and asked her out! Go figure. Now that the kids are out for President's Day, he is at Hannah's house spending the day and eating supper.

Kids are so resilient it amazes me, but I still think it was an early, important lesson to learn. Sadly, it is very hard for boys and girls to "just be friends" at any age!

Snow Day

Today is our first snow day this year (and hopefully last). Unlike many other bloggers who got tons of snow, we barely got anything and the kids are still out of school! Oh well, Aurea went outside to play in it and Adam is still asleep. LOL

I know this song is on my playlist, but it is beautiful. It really fits my life and helps me when I'm feeling down. I just wanted to share it.

"The Mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee"

"THE MAYONNAISE JAR & 2 CUPS OF COFFEE"

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jarand 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy classand had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very largeand empty mayonnaise jarand proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the studentsif the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the openareas between the golf balls.
He then askedthe students againif the jar was full..They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sandand poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full.
The students respondedwith an unanimous"yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table And poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the Empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now," said the professor,as the laughter subsided,"I want you to recognize thatthis jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things -God, family, children, health, friends, and Favorite passions --things that if everything else was lostand only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matterlike your job, house, and car.
The sand is everything else --the small stuff.
"If you put the sand into the jar first,"he continued,"there is no room forthe pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.
If you spend all your timeand energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So...
Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play With your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18.
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

"Take care of the golf balls first --the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her handand inquired what the coffee represented.
The professor smiled."I'm glad you asked".

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Busy, Busy

We went last weekend and got Aurea's ears repierced for free! I was not happy with these people. We went in and it took them forever to find our paperwork. Then, they repierced the same hole and made her bleed! Needless to say, she was crying and upset at this point. They finally got it done though and did not throw in anything extra for the trouble. We proceeded to the carousel and then to have ice cream sundaes with some kids from the carousel. She cheered up fast!

Tonight is the Super Bowl as I'm sure everyone knows. Adam is at his own Super Bowl party with the church youth group. He's really excited and thinks his party tonight is the greatest thing in the world! Aurea is just dancing around the house for attention while my mom and I are watching the commercials and talking during the game! LOL

Work has been keeping me really busy. I really like the job and being able to be there for the girls. I passed all of my written tests and my Safe Crisis Management training! Yippee. The bad part is they called me in yesterday and everybody told me to get used to it. Apparently the hours aren't as straightforward as previously told. I guess it's to be expected from a 24-hour facility, but geez I'd like to see my kids once in a while! It is a very rewarding job though. I hope to be able to help and make a difference.

I've seen Shawn a couple of time this week, but it's hard with my schedule to see him much. Things are going really well. I am actually happy though. He's really there for me and listens to me and makes me feel good. This is something completely new to me, I'm loving it!
